Measurement principle

The SIOS incorporates a new optical chip, containing multiple Mach-Zehnder Interferometers. The sensing volume on the Integrated Optical Circuit contains a gas-specific absorbent or bioactive component which acts as selective sensor material. Its index of refraction is a function of the concentration.
This principle has inherent advantages of very high sensitivity and low temperature dependence.
