About Microfluidics
Microfluidics or Lab-on-a-Chip is the manipulation, analysis and chemistry of tiny amounts of gases and liquids in micrometer sized channels fabricated by microtechnology.
Some advantages of microfluidics are:
- Better process control by instantaneous mixing and heating
- Reduced consumption of expensive (bio)chemical reagents
- Parallel processing of multiple reactions (screening)
- Safer
Applications of microfluidics are typically in bioanalysis (genomics, proteomics, cellomics), drug development, fine chemistry
