In the october/november issue of IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, Vol. 18, Issue 5 an article of LioniX has been published.
In this article the experimental results of integrated optics ring resonators (RRs) based on TriPleX™ waveguide technology are reported. The RRs operate in the near infrared enabling the use of very cost effective VCSELs as a light source.

In the last years LioniX has been the leader of a large Dutch research project dealing with the "Merging Electronics and Micro & nano-PHotonics in Integrated Systems" (MEMPHIS) www.smartmix-memphis.nl. In this project over 20 (mainly Dutch) partners collaborated on the development of new photonic technologies and the integration with electronics for a variety of applications. The Memphis project brought the photonics community closer together creating a collaborative atmosphere in which the next step can be made by bundling the forces. On November 20th this project will officially be ended with a symposium held at Burgers Zoo, Arnhem (the Netherlands). This symposium is free of charge for participants and registration can be done here.
In June the official press release of the Biomarque project was published. The project deals with the measurement of lactate under the skin by using micro needles. This is in particular interesting for athletes to monitor the effectiveness of their training and also can be applied in future applications in health care after further development (for instance the monitoring of oxygen in the organs of a patient). In the mean time the project has had a successful kick-off and the first steps are made in the realization of a functional demonstrator in which the LioniX fabrication technology is used for the realization of the needles.
LioniX and PhoeniX Software would like to announce a new Multi Project Wafer run in the TriPleX™ technology.
The TriPleX™ waveguides offered within this MPW are designed for applications to operate at the telecom wavelength (1.55 micrometer) with a low modal birefringence. The waveguide however is also transparent for lower wavelengths. In addition, these waveguides show a low propagation loss and are designed such that coupling to and from commercially available optical fibers experiences a low loss.
In this pdf document more information on the MPW run and the cost involved can be found.
The main dates to remember are:

Advanced Technology students applied for the StartriX 2012 award with the best business case for a new high-tech (spin-off) company on April 19.
The winner is Mundo using SLIPS technology based coating. It can be used on windows so that they never have to be cleaned.
It's a good idea and application, realistic and the businessplan was very good, with all the required aspects in it.
LioniX is sponsor of this price which is worth €1000.
