A Lab-on-a-Chip (LoaC) is a device that integrates one or several laboratory functions on a single chip of only square millimeters to a few square centimeters in size. LoaCs are based on micro-fluidics technology and deal with the handling of extremely small fluid volumes with pico-liter accuracy.
Over the past decade a new way of doing chemistry has emerged: chemical synthesis in continuous flow instead of batch manufacturing. Working closely with start-up companies in this field such as ChemtriX BV, LioniX has developed the necessary technology to design and manufacture micro reactors.
Enhancements of sensing systems and flow manifolds for fluid control in manufacturing processes, chemical synthesis and analysis systems build on new innovations in microtechnology. Batch processing of sensors enable high volume manufacturing of identical sensors that are used for Industrial Process Control (IPC).
Optical sensors can provide very high sensitivity, wide dynamic range and immunity to electrical interference. In case of using Integrated Optics (IO), also miniaturization and remote sensing becomes possible. When based on our proprietary TriPleX™-platform, these IO-sensors can be easily combined with micro-fluidics, yielding so-called opto-fluidics.
Microwave Photonic Filters (MPFs) and the optical generation of microwave signals, as two major applications of microwave photonics research, have recently attracted much attention.
LioniX provides TriPleX™-based technology that enables compact integrated microwave-photonics-functionality on a silicon-platform, so called Optical Beam forming Networks (OBFN).
The technology enables fabrication of compact beamforming networks for smart antenna arrays.
LioniX provides foundry services ranging form single step services as well as processing of complex structures and components. Our foundry services are performed by LioniX engineers on the Nanolab equipment from the MESA+ Research Institute. In addition LioniX has its private cleanroom facilities with equipment for our proprietary technologies.
