Micro reactor technology is a promising and emerging technology in the area of fine chemistry. Thanks to the progress in Micro System Technology in general and micro fluidics and analysis in particular, it will be possible to build complete chemical ‘plants’ in a desktop format, enabling R&D on (bio) chemical processes on the micro scale with unique features such as extremely low reagent consumption, fast mixing, and optimal control of process conditions. The volume production of the fine chemicals could be established by reproduction of the micro reactor systems, avoiding the known problems of scaling-up.

Involvement of LioniX

LioniX provided Siemens A&D with a feasibility/concept study on micro reactor systems based on its know how in micro fluidic components and micro sensor and analysis techniques. Moreover a first working model of the basic part of such a system has been built with help of LioniX’ proprietary micro fluidics assembly and integration platform MATAS.
